Encaustic Paintings
Encaustic painting is an ancient technique, dating back to the ancient Greeks.
Encaustic painting, hot wax painting, involves using heated beeswax and dammar resin (crystallized tree sap) to which colored pigments are added. It is a process of reheating many layers of wax to fuse it to the previous layer and is normally applied to wood with bushes and sculpting tools.
I love the process of making my own encaustic waxes and mediums, it all feels very alchemical and the results of each painting are unique and sometimes surprising.
